About Saxa Jewelry
My love of jewelry started with a fascination for the treasures given to us by the earth. I would wear a ring on every joint of my fingers if I could, but working with my hands is not always conducive to such extravagance.
My first gem show, 10 years ago, was where I got the idea to start making things. I had $300 to my name and wanted to spend every cent on adornments. But I started thinking, if I bought a few stones and learned to make rings myself, I would not need to spend all my money. I was right about the former - I did learn to make rings. But the latter is best summed up by my partner: “You don’t make money off your jewelry; you just buy more rocks.” He is not wrong and it’s exactly how I hoped it would work out.
I returned from that gem show inspired. I found a jewelry class on Groupon for $100 and began my journey.
Jewelry is my love, not my job.
I have spent ten years cultivating my skills and aesthetic through classes around the country; private lessons from my incredible mentor and friend; a boss who taught me the tricks of gems and bartering; YouTube when in a pinch; colleagues who have be integral to my success; friends who have supported my art and dreams; and A LOT of trial and A LOT of error.
It has been an incredible journey over the years and I’ve realized my passion is to make jewelry with gems many do not know exist and stones not seen everyday. I want to showcase the uniqueness of the rocks we know, and showcase the ones we do not. I love the flaws - inclusions, off colors, imperfections.
I love jewelry and I want everyone to love jewelry.
